Just a Moment

That's all it takes to bring a bubbly, chatty and outrageously happy 1.5 year old to complete fear stricken panic, stiff body and silent screams...especially when a taco shell is invovled. Can I just say a public prayer of thanks for a mom that does not panic under pressure, for tonight she saved my child's life. Thank you mom, I KNOW I would not have handled tonight as quickly and calmly as you did...such carress. Ana is TRULY blessed.

Tonight, I had my first, and hopefully only, true heart break as I watched my little Ana bobana choke silently and stiffly on her taco shell dinner. Never again will I underestimate the doctor's recomendations for what is a choking hazard. I will never forget her body language. Oh constant chills. And thank God because I am happy to report that Ana is sleeping peacefully after a night ending with happy cheers while playing with Nana with what seems to be no memory of her tragic event.

Oh my God! How scary that must have been for you! I'm happy it happened with your Mom or Paul around to help you in a panic situation. I know you would have known what to do if you were on your own, but I bet your Mom and Paul are even quicker to respond without an ounce of panic entering their systems.

I have chills up and down my body. At least you didn't end up in the ER again....can you stop having "scary" events while you're here in WI?

Seeing as I have Heimlich-ed both of my children, while at home, by myself I cannot stress enough the importance of taking a first-aid class complete with CPR and Heimlich maneuvers for an infant, child and adult. Amy, I admire your courage for sharing this; I was too shook up to even write about it on my blog. There is nothing scarier than seeing your child turn blue/purple and knowing that their life is truely in your hands.

There is a reason CPR and most first aid certifications are only good for two years. After about two years a refresher course is needed. So, if you (meaning anyone who is reading this) aren't sure you could remain calm in an emergency situation and do what needed to be done - take a class. Someone who you love may depend on you someday!

My certification expires this fall...thanks for the scary reminder to get it updated.
