Time to Baby Proof

Look at that look on her face...this is the first time I had to use "no" with Ana.....SO BUSTED!

Ana's new favorite "scoot to" place is any cord with in sight.....time to baby proof!

Outdoor Chic!

Outdoor Chick!, originally uploaded by Toson's.

Ana ABSOLUTELY loves the outdoors. Everytime we hit the cold, brisk air her tongue goes out to catch it and she squeals with glee. She's in the right family. Although we didn't make it out to the woods much this year, it's sure to be a favorite family past time.

Gettting ready!

Here is Ana's official "waiting for mom" throne. She thinks it's just a hoot to sit under all the coats. Not sure what I'll do when she figures out how to move off the ledge!

A visit from Grandma Beebs

Justin's mom came to visit from Arizona early this month. She was able to see the new house and spend some great time with Ana. It's always fun to watch Ana get to know another loved one!

My First Halloween: Tender Heart

Tender Heart, originally uploaded by Toson's.

Ana was mesmorized by Halloween. This is the look she had all night. We went trick or treating with the Kluths and cousin Addy and Grandma and Grandpa. The girls shared a stroller and just took it all in!
It's hard to imagine that in a few years (or less) Ana will be running from door to door. I'm not ready for this growing up thing!

Ana has recently taken to "trying" to feed herself. I think she gets more on her face then in her mouth. Such fun!

New Home...New Moves!

Ana is now in her third home of her life...poor thing. We have finally made the move to our new house in Oconomowoc, and thanks to Daddy, Grandpa and Uncle Laurence all our things are here. Ana has adjusted well, like always, and is even showing her excitement for the new place by army crawling around the living room (just a foot or two for now)! Thank goodness she is so laid back, because she just rolls with it all and we continue to get our beauty sleep!
I'll download some picture tomorrow so stay tuned.

102 and still kickin'

Well, Ana has made her first unscheduled doctor appointment to a new doctor out here, none the less...she woke up on fire Monday morning with a fever of 102 that she couldn't shake- even with motrin and tylonol. So off to the doctor we went. Turns out she had blisters on her throat... a symptom of the hand, foot and mouth virus. The doctor was SHOCKED that she was still happy and eating. I told her, "you underestimate my daughter's appetite!". She was fine by Friday, and played all weekend with friends! What a trooper she continues to be!

Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin Patch, originally uploaded by Toson's.

This weekend I took a study break to hit the Elegant Farmer with Ana and Sam's family. Ana had such a blast. She couldn't get enough of the bright orange. We went for a hay ride....which made Ana barf all over... and let the kids play in the patch. Fall really is here, isn't it....funny thing is it was 85 degrees out! Go figure!

Play time in the tent with Angelina

Ana's favorite summer activity (or maybe mommy's) is boating on La Belle. We bring this handy dandy little tent and enjoy the sun. Do you see Ana peeking out in the background?

This time we ended up stranded in the middle of the lake. Angelina's mommy and Grandma (T and Maria) had to push us in. OOPS...next time we'll bring the oars!

Ana had her first babysitter this past week. I had an all day event so Sam and Ana got to play all day together with Sam's mom...and she SURVIVED! The kids had a blast: reading books, playing outside and exploring each others built in toys (the toes)!

coughs, teeth and new rooms

Well...the last month has been anything but relaxing for us. Ana has finally cut her second tooth after a month of advil and chewing on everything in sight (including toast and crackers- such a big girl) AND got her first cold. She has handled both well, even amidst a move into Grandma and Grandpa's new house. That's right, we are living with my (Amy's) parents until our house is complete. It has been a nice and relaxing transistion into work hood for me and Ana with the babysitter in house. Which leads me into another large change for Ana this month... that is baby sitters! My work at the Univeristy has officially started, bringing me away from the home Mondays and Tuesdays all day and night, and Wednesday afternoons and night. That means I don't see Ana for more than 15 minutes on Monday and Tuesdays and only in the morning on Wednesdays. So far things have been OK, but I miss her like crazy! However, I know she couldn't be in better hands as she ADORES and is ADORED by my parents- her "official" child care providers! She also gets to spend 2 of her 1/2 days with cousin Addy, whom she also adores and gazes at with glee all day.
Ana is also doing a lot of new "tricks"..sitting up and playing, eating hard foods, rolling from side to side, babbling up a storm, and into EVERYTHING with such intense interest that I think I can see the neurons connecting as she plays! It is such a fun stage, I will be sad as it develops away. Pictures wil have to wait, although we have many, they are locked away in cyberspace due to the packing away of all our cords! (We're living out of suitcases these couple of months)

Rocky Mountain High

Ana has now been on her second family vacation out to the Rocky Mountains. We flew into Denver and drove straight to Colorado Springs for Haze's wedding. In true Ana form she slept and ate the whole plane ride and was an angel! Midwest Express wins our praise again, they're GREAT! We had a great trip, did some low key hiking, a lot of pretty drives and checked out Aspen on the way. The second day there Ana got her first tooth, so had some rough days, but all in all was her normal 5 month old inquisitive self...taking in all the sights and touching/chewing on everything she could get in her mouth! She is so in tuned to her surroundings now- looking, touching, manipulating! We love to just watch her watch her world as she tries to put it all together. Like one big, never ending puzzle. What a trip!

A TOOTH! A TOOTH!

It is official- 8-13-2005 Ana got her first tooth and is handling it with a bit difficulty (hasn't slept through the night since). It popped through on our trip to Colorado for Haze's wedding and she has been taking infant Motrin every 6-8 hours since. I tried to go without one doze and she MADE sure to let me know that it WAS NOT an OK option for her! I'm pretty sure another one is working it's way up, but Justin swears there are 4 more coming. We'll keep you posted! Poor little thing. She just gives us those, "I'm in pain Mom, HELP!" eyes and I melt away.

Aunt Christie believes in early exposure....giving Ana her first taste of Beck's beer at 4 1/2 months of age is just the start. The Scary thing is Ana LOVED it- well, the bottle anyway. Anytime it was taken away she screamed for it back. YIKES!

Morning Cuddles

Here you see Ana's daily morning demeanor- cuddly and full of giggles. It's our favorite time of day. Which is why, upsettin to family, we REFUSE to let Ana have sleepovers. We did it once, and couldn't handle missing this morning bonding. Now, if you get her at night, we come too....The Toson package deal we call it!

Playtime with Nora and Grace

Playtime with Nora and Grace, originally uploaded by Toson's.

Our neighbors, Nora (10 months) and Grace (4 months), come over periodically to play with Ana. Here she is, topless, gazing away. It's great for tummy time tolerance!

What's this green stuff I'm eating?

Ana is now eating solids once a day and has quickly increased her diet to a variety of foods. On the list is cereal, bananas, sweet potatoes, and her favorite so far...avacadoes. The first week was messy, messy, but she is notw getting the hang of it. She even grabs the spoon and puts it in her mouth. We're working on the signs "more" and "eat".

Gimmie that Bottle MOM!

Gimmie that Bottle MOM!, originally uploaded by Toson's.

Ana is now reaching for her bottle and holding it up in her mouth. It's difficult for her when it's full so it needs supporting, but the last few ounces she's on her own :) We tried a handle attachment, but she prefers just holding on to the bottle.

It has been a few weeks now that Ana remains fascinated with her built in toy....her toes! Big step as far as therapy goes because it means her trunk is loosening up.

Times are a changin'

Ana has had quite an eventful last month. She remains to keep busy with Jake and Maia all week going to the Zoo, YMCA, museums, library, country club, beaches, local state parks for hikes, water parks....etc.. and is really starting to recognize them with exicted squeals when she sees them. Lately they've taken to having contests to see who can make her smile the most. It's so fun to watch.

Her neck is still tight so we've beefed up the interventions. She now recieves one houre of physical therapy and one hour of cranial sacheral therapy a week. She also went in for a neck x-ray this week, which was MUCH more difficult on me than her. Although, she has so many cubbers they had to put her in contraptions and take more than one shot to actually see through the rolls. To which she exerted her strong communicative dislike. But, when all was said and done everything is fine with her neck structure. That means it's all muscle so we keep plugging away.

We've started solids (pureed solids anyway) this month, and in true Ana form she eats them well. So far we've done rice cereal, avacadoes and sweet potatoes. Banannas and carrots are next on the list! Stay tuned for funny pictures of the event!

She also has learned to completely self-sooth with her thumb thus had entirely given up the NUK. Currently she only takes her left thumb and puts herself to sleep with left thumb in mouth right hand crasping a blanket pulled over her eyes. Justin and I can tell when it's bed time just by her "assuming the position" as we say.

On the family front we sold out current condo and bought a home that is under construction in Oconomowoc. Which, as far as Ana is concerned, means she is dragged nightly to all the vendors for various house selections. She is handling it well and we've been told more than once that she looks like the Gerber baby. "Just like her mama did," I say. We move out 9/1/05, in with my parents for a month, and then into the new house by 10/1/05. So things remain busy here, but laid back Ana just rolls with it, smilng the whole time.

Our endless time together is quickly reaching it's end, as I start up school and my grant work, along with consulting in late August...which is just around the corner. Thankfully for wonderful family, Ana gets to play with Grandma and cousin Addy while I work and study. She will be there 3 days a week, and then with daddy during the three evenings, as my classes are all at night. It will be interesting, and sad for me, to see our relationship change as she learns to rely on someone other than myself for all her entertainment and survival needs. I'm quite sad thinking about it, but know it must be done.....reality AMY!

Recent pictures will be coming this weekend so stay tuned!

SURPRISE

To my surprise Ana rolled from her tummy to back today. OF COURSE it was when I wasn't looking....it was during her mid day tummy time. She was happily looking around at her toys. When I walked the whole 10 feet into the kitchen she was belly down talking away, but when I returned her big baby blues were staring right UP at me paired with a big "look what I just did" smile! I wish I could have seen it b/c we've been working diligently at it since PT started. C'est la vie.

As far as therapy goes not much gain in the neck region, but her over all range of motion with grabbing and lifting her head on her tummy has improved drastically. Which Lisa, Ana'a PT, says is a good sign. Ana will start OT-head massage- in the next couple of weeks for her mis-shaped head. The hope is that the therapy will bring her left ear, cheekbone and eye back in alignment with the right side of her face. This is in lieu of the DREADFUL helmet, which I REFUSE to even consider at this point. We'll keep you posted!

She continues to be a happy, mellow baby T with a consistently large smile and interactive personality. Definitely DADDY!

Boot Camp Lives On

Well...Ana had her first PT (physical therapy) appointment and baby boot camp must continue AND increase in intensity (as if it wasn't enough already). The good news is Ana hit it off wonderfully with her therapist, Lisa. She worked with her for an hour and will see her one hour each week for now. We also have to CONSTANTLY be working her neck and trunk muscles. It seems that her entire body is beginning to tighten up and she needs to be worked with to not only straighten the neck out, but to open her fingers, reach for objects, roll/rock her trunk, etc.... Basically all range of motion actions with her limbs, neck and tummy. YIKES. We have this fun therapy ball now and a packet full of stretches, strengthing exercises and special holds.....don't be offended if I tweak her position while you play with/hold her. I'm told to be obsessive- one of my best traits!

Other than that we're having a great summer! We're really getting around, as you can see by the pictures and Ana enjoys every minute of it.
